To us, Revel Cider is an art project. We unapologetically make the ciders that we want to drink. We’re commited to creating Urban Farmhouse ciders: through mixed culture and spontaneous fermentation.
We create our ciders with 100% Ontario fruit, various botanicals and flowers, novel yeast and bacteria, and a variety of oak barrels. Most of our cider is unfiltered, without preservatives or backsweetening. We are committed to doing this for all our ciders in 2018.
Tariq here: founder and cider maker. There was (and still is) a serious lack of quality farmhouse ciders in Ontario, and even Canada. As a lover of farmhouse breweries, I set out to apply those techniques to our cider. I spent some time wanting to be a farmer, and lived as an intern at Manorun Organic Farm in 2014. I taught myself to make cider there, using an old apple press in the top of the barn. Manorun gave me access to the some of the best ingredients, so I fermented pretty much everything you can imagine.
After winning a pitch competition at the University of Guelph, I started the business. Through early recognition at the better craft beer bars in the province, we’ve grown organically without having to make any real sales calls. We are now a team of two cider makers, myself and Stephen Cleary.
3 years later, we’ve won quite a few awards for our little cidery but the best recognition comes from our customers: the bars, restaurants, and their guests who support us.
