Arlo
Arlo is a skin fermented wine made from Seyval Blanc and Vidal; orange and aged three weeks on skins before bottling.
These grapes were grown and hand harvested by Douglas Backus and his family in Lincoln, Ontario, in the fall of 2025.
I take comfort in the annual rhythms of fruit.
Grape skins swell each summer with sunbeams and water, like the earth itself inhaling the stars. That juice is exhaled into our press, our glasses, our minds.
What's it like:Â Bergamot, quince and green tea leaves play in the aroma, but Arlo is dry and tannic in flavour. Ripe nectarines, peach blossoms, honeycomb and white raspberries all plop into my mind.
It leaves you with gentle acid, tannic flowers and a kiss of salinity. Arlo is everything I love about orange wine.
