Geode
Geode is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (1/3) and Maréchal Foch (2/3), aged in clay amphora for 3 months. The fruit was all picked in 2021, these bottles have been ageing in our cellar for nearly half a decade.
Maréchal Foch is a high acid red, so we wanted to see how our limestone rich clay might reduce that acidity over time. The decision to add Sauvignon Blanc was inspired by the winemakers of Northern Rhone, and their Syrah which usually has some Viognier blended in for body.
What's it like? The acid is bright, fresh and structural, but balanced well by the clay and body from our Sauvignon Blanc. The guava/tropical white lifts the blueberry notes of the red, making the fruit really pop.

Hybrid grapes like Maréchal Foch are special because they have native, North American ancestry, making them far better suited to growing here. This means they're easier to grow without conventional pesticides, and in fact our grower uses primarily organic applications like baking soda and sulphur in the vineyard.
